Abstract:
Intramural
small bowel hematoma (ISBH) is a rare condition that presents with the
formation of a blood collection within the layers of the small intestines.
Individuals with ISBH often experience severe abdominal pain accompanied by
nausea, vomiting, and bowel obstruction. Although the condition is often
considered rare among elderly patients, its incidence has been observed to
increase following the wide use of long-term anticoagulation interventions by
older adults. Thus, it is important for healthcare researchers to establish
appropriate interventional strategies for alleviating symptoms of ISBH among
elderly patients. This paper reports a case of a 71-year-old patient with
long-term anticoagulation therapy who developed an acute small bowel
obstruction. The case study emphasizes the need for heightened clinical
suspicion for intramural bowel hematoma in elderly patients with progressive
anticoagulation therapy.
